Smiling graduate Michael wears a maroon cap and gown and holds his diploma labeled Alpena Community College.

Michael knew that earning a college degree and lineman certification would open the door to a rewarding career, but paying for school presented a major challenge. Determined to succeed, he turned to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for assistance.

Through the WIOA Adult Program, Michigan Works! helped relieve the financial burden of college by providing assistance with tuition, tools, and rent. With fewer financial worries, Michael was able to focus on his studies and successfully complete the Lineman Program at Alpena Community College.

Michael graduated magna cum laude, earning both his associate degree and his lineman certificate. While currently interviewing with Wolverine Power Company, he remains optimistic about launching his career in the electrical utility industry.

Reflecting on his journey, Michael shared, "College is not easy, but it's not impossible. You have to push through the hard things and keep moving forward." He also expressed his gratitude for the support he received from Michigan Works!, which helped make his education and future career possible.
