A Dream Behind the Wheel Becomes a Reality

For Gary, becoming a truck driver was more than just a career choice — it was a lifelong dream. Growing up in a family of truck drivers, Gary always knew he wanted to follow in their footsteps and become a third-generation driver.

When Gary decided it was time to pursue that goal, he enrolled in Alpena Community College’s Summer CDL program. Navigating the enrollment process and finding a way to pay for training could have been overwhelming, but Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium helped guide him through each step.

Through Employment Services support, Michigan Works! assisted Gary with the paperwork, funding, and resources needed to successfully complete his training. He gained valuable hands-on experience, including learning the importance of detailed CDL pre-trip inspections and safe driving practices designed to support a successful career.

Gary successfully earned his CDL-A and is now ready to begin the next chapter of his career.
