Cody was already building a career in the construction industry when he recognized that earning his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) could help him take the next step. By adding this valuable credential, Cody knew he could expand his responsibilities, increase his value to his employer, and create additional opportunities for career growth.
The cost of CDL training presented a challenge, but Cody turned to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for support. Through the WIOA Adult Program, Michigan Works! provided funding assistance that helped cover the cost of attending Alpena Community College’s CDL-A program, allowing Cody to focus on developing the skills needed to successfully complete his training.
Cody successfully completed the program and earned his CDL-A certification, adding an in-demand credential to his professional skill set. Along the way, he gained a greater appreciation for the complexity of commercial driving and the knowledge required to operate safely and professionally.
“Michigan Works! provided the funding I needed to attend class and gain my CDL in a short period of time. Truck driving is more difficult than the average driver realizes, but I now know I can do it.”
With his CDL-A now in hand, Cody is better equipped to take on additional responsibilities with Leavesley Construction and continue building a long-term career in the construction industry. His story demonstrates how investing in skills and training can help employees grow while helping employers strengthen their workforce.
