Onaway Students Tour UAW Center at Black Lake

November 13 – For the first time in its 54 year history, the UAW Center at Black Lake opened its doors to offer a Talent Tour for 22 Onaway High School Seniors.

Kris Crawford, Human Resource Manager, who has been at the UAW for 30 years and has worked her way to the position she has now, and Special Events Coordinator, Cindy Gezon, led the students on a 1 hour tour inside and outside of the conference center.

Students were showed areas on the grounds that consisted of the kitchen, dining room, classrooms, cabins, and more. During the tour, Kris and Cindy each gave detailed background on the UAW, how it started, who started it, what it is today. Students were led down hall ways, got to take the shuttle around the grounds, ask questions, were told what jobs were available and the benefits offered, as well as how to apply.

Originally the center was created as an educational center for UAW (United Auto Worker) members across the country. It was a meeting place of brotherhood where ideas could be taught, traded and shared, friendships built.
