When Hailey first came to Michigan Works!, she faced a number of significant barriers that stood in the way of completing her education and achieving her goals. Among these challenges were no driver’s license, a lack of transportation, little to no work experience, and basic academic skill deficiencies. Despite these obstacles, Hailey remained committed to building a better future for herself.

With the help of Michigan Works! and dedicated staff, she was connected to vital resources, including educational support to help her complete her high school diploma, career readiness training to build confidence and workplace skills, work experience placement at Hidden Nook Booksellers to gain employability skills, transportation assistance and guidance toward obtaining a driver’s license, and one-on-one mentoring and coaching to stay motivated and focused. Hailey also received leadership development through the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program, and guidance from Michigan Works! to complete her FAFSA and college applications.

Through consistent effort and with help of wraparound supports from Michigan Works!, Hailey has successfully completed her high school credential. Her determination didn’t stop there—she went on to enroll at Kirtland Community College, where she is now pursuing her passion for art.

One of her proudest moments so far was participating in a recent art show hosted by the college, where she had the opportunity to showcase her work to the public. This milestone not only reflects her talent, but also symbolizes how far she has come on her journey. Hailey’s story is a testament to what can happen when ambition meets opportunity. Michigan Works! is proud to have played a part in helping Hailey reach her goals and we look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in the future.
