Emerson holds his Completion Certificate and smiles, while wearing a neon construction vest and standing in front of a yellow CAT loader.

Fresh out of high school, Emerson knew what he wanted: a career working with heavy equipment. But with limited money and the cost of specialized training standing in his way, getting started seemed challenging.

Emerson turned to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for help. Through tuition assistance and personalized guidance, Michigan Works! helped him navigate the enrollment paperwork and access the training he needed at Midwest Truck Driving School and North Country Heavy Equipment School.

With this support, Emerson earned his Heavy Equipment Certification and CDL-A with tanker endorsement. He also secured a job he genuinely enjoys, putting him on the path toward the career he envisioned.

Emerson appreciated the patience and support he received from Michigan Works! staff in the Onaway and Cheboygan offices. He learned that achieving a goal takes hard work and patience, but that the right support can make the journey possible.

Emerson's story is a reminder that a strong start doesn't always require having everything figured out. With determination and access to training, young adults can turn their interests into meaningful career opportunities.
