October 6, 2023 - In recognition of Manufacturing Day, Weyerhaeuser held a Talent Tour for 12 Grayling High School students. Also participating in the tour were Grayling High School’s CTE instructor, their Career Readiness Coordinator, and the Michigan Works! Northeast Michigan Consortium Youth Career Advisor.
The tour kicked off with a slide presentation and video of the company’s machines in operation. The employees discussed entry level jobs that can lead to advanced careers within Weyerhaeuser and the career paths involved. The students were very interested in seeing all the high-tech machinery and what they are capable of doing.
The tour included discussions with staff members and students on how an entry level job can lead to a lucrative career at Weyerhaeuser with good work ethics and a willingness to learn the business. The many areas toured showed Weyerhaeuser’s advanced manufacturing capabilities with high-tech blending, forming and pressing machinery. Due to Weyerhaeuser’s patented manufacturing processes no inside plant pictures were allowed. Following the Weyerhaeuser presentation, Michigan Works! staff spoke with students about career pathways, educational requirements, and the online Career Pathfinder exploration tool.
