As a young man who had always dreamed of becoming a lineman, Wyatt knew he first needed to earn his CDL-A. With no savings to cover the cost of training but a strong desire to succeed, he turned to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for help.
Michigan Works! provided tuition assistance and mileage reimbursement, allowing Wyatt to attend Road Warrior Truck Driving School and focus on reaching his goal. Through hard work, practice, and determination, he successfully earned his Class A CDL with air brakes, along with tanker and doubles endorsements.
Wyatt is now putting his new credentials to work as a Groundsman with DuBois Electric, earning $30.32 per hour. He plans to continue pursuing opportunities in the electrical line industry, including storm work and traveling wherever his skills are needed.
“I could not have done it without the help of Michigan Works.”
Wyatt's journey is a great example of how determination, hard work, and access to the right resources can help turn a long-time career dream into a reality.
