Crawford County Juvenile Probate Court Attends Talent Tour at AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

August 15, 2023 – Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium coordinated a Talent Tour for three students from the Crawford County Juvenile Court to visit the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter. Executive Director Katelyn Gibbons started the tour off by speaking about the many jobs and careers at the shelter in animal welfare, such as shelter director, shelter technician, animal control officer, veterinarian and vet technician.

The students were excited to be at the shelter to see the animals. They walked through the dog kennels to see the ones available for adoption and they were able to walk some of the dogs. They also spent a good amount of time in the cat and kitten rooms, where they learned about feline socialization. They were able to interact with the animals and learn about care and nutrition prior to them being adopted. The students had several questions regarding animal quarantines and they were interested in the process of how to adopt animals from the shelter.
