Tuition Funding Takes Veteran from Odd Jobs to Full-Time Trucker

In August, Tom stopped by Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium in Gaylord to work on his resume. He was an Air Force Veteran and working odd jobs, with no steady employment since leaving the service. He hoped Michigan Works! could help.

Tom attended a resume workshop and also began working with a Michigan Works! Career Advisor and the Veterans Career Advisor. Thanks to the Michigan Learning and Education Advancement program and WIOA Adult funding, Tom was able to get his training paid for him to start CDL training at Road Warriors.

Four weeks later Tom had passed his driving test and earned his CDL-A license. He stopped by Michigan Works! to update his resume with his new license information and started applying to jobs. Within a few weeks he found new employment as a truck driver and is now working full-time making $22/hr.
