Shea knew exactly where he wanted his career to go. While working as a salesman at a local car dealership, his long-term goal was to become a lineman—a career that first required earning a CDL-A license. He turned to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for help taking that next step.
After being approved for tuition assistance, Shea encountered an unexpected setback when he lost his job just before beginning CDL training. Rather than letting that derail his plans, Michigan Works! helped him secure a Training Waiver, allowing him to continue receiving unemployment benefits while attending school instead of completing weekly work search activities.
Shea successfully completed Road Warrior Truck Driving School, earned his CDL-A, and accepted a new position with Tri State Forest Products as a CDL-A driver. His new credential has put him one step closer to achieving his ultimate goal of becoming a lineman.
Shea's journey demonstrates how overcoming unexpected challenges can lead to even greater opportunities.
