Alyssa’s journey with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium is a powerful example of perseverance, determination, and steadily building toward a long-term career goal.

Alyssa first connected with Michigan Works! in 2021 through the WIOA In-School Youth Program while working toward her high school diploma. She gained valuable work experience through a placement at The Brook and received supportive services, including assistance with required scrubs, vehicle repairs, and vehicle registration. She also dual enrolled at Kirtland Community College, where Michigan Works! helped with books and a required lab kit. Alyssa successfully graduated from the GLOE Alternative Education Program in June 2022 and soon began working at Northern Michigan Community Health.

Determined to continue growing her healthcare career, Alyssa returned to Michigan Works! in 2023 to pursue her Certified Nursing Assistant credential. With support through the WIOA Adult Classroom Training Program and additional funding through MiReach and the Michigan Learning and Education Advancement Program, she completed the Agape CNA Program, earned her certification, and gained employment at King’s Nursing Home.

In 2026, Alyssa once again turned to Michigan Works! as she took the next step toward her career goal. While continuing to work, she enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program at Kirtland Community College. Her hard work paid off when she completed the program in July 2026, passed her required state examinations, and accepted a full-time position as a Medical Assistant with Munson Family Practice, earning $20.04 per hour.

From earning her high school diploma to becoming a CNA and now a Medical Assistant, Alyssa has continued to build on each accomplishment while working toward her ultimate goal of becoming a nurse. Her story shows how determination, combined with the right education, training, and support, can help turn one step forward into a meaningful career journey.
