Michigan Works! Barrier Removal Program Helps Teacher Prepare for New Job

Penny came to the Gaylord Michigan Works! office in need of clothing and new shoes so that she could start her new substitute teacher position. She is seasonally employed to do taxes during the spring, but didn’t have enough income to get the clothing she needed for this new position.

With the help of Career Navigator Chelsea Bertagnoli, Penny was in and out of Michigan Works! within minutes, with a voucher to purchase new clothing at the Salvation Army. With the help she received thanks to the BRES (Barrier Removal Employment Success) funding available at Michigan Works!, Penny was able to purchase several items of clothing and a pair of shoes for her new job.
