At Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, the Youth Services program has the privilege of working with young individuals determined to shape a brighter future. One such individual is Kylie, a participant in the WIOA In-School Youth program, whose journey reflects resilience, growth, and the power of support.

Kylie came from a low-income background with limited support systems, facing challenges that could have easily held her back from reaching her educational and career goals. Despite these obstacles, she demonstrated a quiet determination and a willingness to work toward something greater.

Through targeted services, Kylie received educational and career guidance, participated in career readiness skill development and exploration, and was supported with essential resources such as school and work clothing, supplies, and assistance with college scholarship recommendations. These services helped lay a strong foundation for her personal and professional growth.

Kylie didn’t just participate—she excelled. She attended the Career Development Conference (2025 & 2026), where she achieved 1st place in a communication event, showcasing both skill and confidence. She engaged actively in the Next Step Day Campaign and the Summer Career Readiness and Exploration Program. She also earned recognition for Excellence in Youth Leadership (2025 & 2026). These accomplishments reflect her commitment to personal development and her ability to stand out as a leader among her peers.

Beyond structured activities, Kylie also gave back to her community—volunteering at local events such as Veterans’ Day and Adopt-A-Highway, and at her local Chamber of Commerce. These experiences strengthened her sense of purpose and community connection.

Through this journey, Kylie discovered something even more powerful than academic or career skills—confidence in herself. She recognized her ability to overcome challenges and began to see obstacles not as barriers, but as opportunities for growth.

Today, Kylie is taking the next step toward her future, planning to attend Lake Superior State

University to further her education.

Kylie’s story is not just one of success—it is a reminder that with encouragement, resources, and belief in one’s potential, young individuals can rise above challenges and achieve meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
