Leah’s journey with Michigan Works! began over two years ago, when she began working with Youth Career Advisor Jeanie Flory and enrolling in the WIOA Youth and the Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG) programs. During Leah’s time in these programs, her dedicated Advisor offered employment prep and job search guidance, encouraged career exploration, provided tutoring and guidance on college applications, filling out the FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and much more. Jeanie was also able to help Leah overcome transportation barriers, by providing mileage assistance and vehicle repairs. Leah is proud to have recently graduated in the top 10 in her class and has received multiple scholarships for college.

Thankful for the assistance she received from Michigan Works! and the endless support from Jeanie, Leah shares this note:

Hi, my name is Leah Larkin. I just graduated from Inland lakes high school. I wanna give a huge thank you to Michigan Works. But most of all I want to thank Jeanie. She had been my biggest supporter for the last 2 years. She has helped me finalize so many essay and helped me study for so many tests. She has also helped me with applying to college and everything that has to deal with college. I definitely could not have done it without her, I was so confused. She has helped me be able to afford to get to school and home with gas and also has helped me fix my car when it breaks. She has helped me with money for gas mileage, car repairs and much more. I started working with Jeanie almost 2 years ago and I honestly don’t know where I would be without her. She has listened to many or even all of my problems and she has never gave up on me. She has been a great part in my life. Without the Michigan Works program I would not have been able to do everything I have done. Thank you so much.

Sincerely, Leah Larkin
