Cody has been a truck driver with a Class B CDL in Cheboygan for the past 3 years. Then, during Covid, he was laid off from his job and unable to find another job, because he was unfamiliar with manual transmissions. He came to Michigan Works! looking for help in obtaining his CDL-A so that he would become more employable.
Working with Career Advisor Niki Chamberlain, Cody was able to receive assistance to pay for the training costs and mileage reimbursement while traveling back and forth to Road Warrior Truck Driving School.
"The most challenging part was not knowing how I would pay for training or get started. I reached out to Michigan Works! for help and they pointed me the right direction and made it an easy process for me,” says Cody.
"Michigan Works! was incredibly helpful and the staff made it clear that their first priority is helping me find employment once my training was done.”
He continues, "I received a Class A CDL with manual endorsement because of the help from Michigan Works! I cannot speak highly enough of the staff in the Cheboygan office and the well run program at Road Warrior Tuck Driving School."
