Michigan Works! Helps Relocated Teacher Get Back to the Classroom

Michelle moved to Grayling from Ohio, where she had been teaching. Now living in Michigan, Michelle obtained her Real Estate License, but she really wanted to go back to what she loved - TEACHING! In order to go back to teaching, she had to get her Michigan Teaching Certificate. Michelle was referred to Michigan Works! by a #TEACH participant she had been talking with. The individual gave a high review of the individuals working in the Grayling Michigan Works! office and suggested they could help.

With tuition assistance offered through Michigan Works!, Michelle was able to receive her Interim Teaching Certificate by completing the #TEACH program, CPR Training, and pass her Michigan Test for Teacher Certification. Michelle states the funding assistance allowed her family to not be overburdened by the expense of the program, and helped her to stay focused on accelerated program completion.

Michelle has now returned to her passion – TEACHING! She is a 3rd Grade teacher for Crawford AuSable Schools. Michelle states she’d definitely refer others to Michigan Works! because the staff was very helpful and pleasant, and the process to apply for the assistance went quite smooth.
