February 17— Held every other year, the Cheboygan High School Career and College Expo brought over 800 students from Cheboygan High School, St. Ignace High School, Inverness Academy, Compass Academy, and Mackinaw City High School together to learn more about available careers and career pathways from area businesses and post-secondary educational institutions. In addition, students from Cheboygan High School also offered informational booths covering the Culinary Field and the STEM fields.
Some businesses in attendance included Ryba Marina, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Star Line, and Thunder Bay Clinic. Colleges attending included Alpena Community College and North Central Michigan College.
Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium hosted an informational booth staffed by Youth Career Advisor Jeanie Flory and Business Solutions Professional Toni Stradling. The booth offered information on Michigan Works! services and programs. Over 60 students stopped by the Michigan Works! booth. Jeanie and Toni talked with students about how Michigan Works! could help them find a job or even pay for career training and tuition. Jeanie also discussed with the Cheboygan High School Counselor about presenting to the students about how Michigan Works! can assist students with preparing for college and employment after graduation.
