In 2022, Sam joined the WIOA Youth Program through Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium with a clear goal: to build her work experience and develop essential employability skills. Through the program, she was placed in a work experience position at the local library, where she gained valuable on-the-job training and received transportation support to help her commute to and from work.
Sam’s dedication didn’t stop there. While working hard at her placement, she also completed her high school education, graduating proudly from Grayling High School. Throughout this time, she remained actively engaged in Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG), participating in leadership activities alongside other youth across northeast Michigan—including representing her region at JMG Leadership Day.
Now enrolled at Kirtland Community College, Sam continues to pursue her educational and career goals with the same determination that brought her this far. Her outstanding commitment and leadership earned her the JMG Excellence in Youth Leadership Award—a prestigious honor given to participants who go above and beyond in their programs, leading by example and demonstrating a strong commitment to their future success.
Sam’s story is a powerful reminder that with perseverance, support, and a desire to lead, young people can shape a brighter future for themselves and others.
