Angela learned about Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium's tuition assistance programs through a classmate while pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Lake Superior State University. With the cost of nursing school creating a significant financial challenge, she sought assistance to help make completing her degree more attainable.
Through tuition assistance and ongoing support from Michigan Works!, Angela was able to stay focused on her education and successfully complete her BSN. The financial support helped reduce the burden of college expenses and allowed her to continue working toward her goal of becoming a nurse.
Shortly after graduation, Angela secured employment as a Graduate Nurse with MyMichigan Medical Center Sault, earning $28 per hour. Once she completes her NCLEX exam, her wage will increase to $31.06 per hour.
Angela expressed her appreciation for the support she received throughout her journey, sharing, "Michigan Works! helped me get through nursing school by assisting with tuition, offering encouragement, and keeping in contact regularly. This is a wonderful resource to have access to, and I highly recommend it. Don't be scared to reach out or ask for help."
Today, Angela is beginning her nursing career and making a difference in her community, thanks to her hard work, determination, and the support that helped her achieve her goal.
