Hillman Students Tour Alpena Community College’s Health Sciences

April 5 – Seven Hillman High School 10th through 12th grade students toured the Health Science wing at Alpena Community College, learning about the in-demand careers for Nursing and Medical Assistant.

The students began the tour in the lecture hall learning about the health science programs available and the program requirements. They were shown how to navigate the college’s website and how to apply for the program, including information on financial aid and the Pathfinder online career exploration tool.

During the walking tour, students were able to explore the skills labs and have hands-on experiences with the mannequins, including listening to the heart and lungs, as well as learn how to take the pulse on the mannequin. The tour also introduced students to the labor/delivery room, where they were able to hold the newborn mannequin and observe the "mother" mannequin experiencing a seizure.

The students reported that they enjoyed the tour and many were very impressed with how realistic and high tech the training dummies were.
