When Mya connected with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, she was looking for opportunities to build employability skills and gain meaningful work experience. Through the WIOA Out-of-School Youth Program and Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG), she received support designed to help her become more prepared and confident entering the workforce.
Through JMG programming, Mya participated in leadership development and soft-skills training while receiving assistance with resume building, job searches, applications, and work clothing. She also completed a work experience placement with Atlanta Community Schools, where she gained valuable hands-on experience and learned more about workplace expectations.
As a result of her dedication and growth, Mya secured employment with a local bar and grill as a service worker. She also gained the confidence and practical skills needed to continue pursuing future career opportunities.
