Matthew found himself unemployed and ready for a fresh start. He had his sights set on a new career in truck driving and wanted to earn his CDL-A through Road Warriors Truck Driving School—but the cost of training was a major hurdle.

Determined to move forward, Matthew turned to Michigan Works! for support. With guidance from Career Navigator Jessica and Career Advisor Chelsea, he completed his eligibility paperwork and was co-enrolled in both the WIOA Adult program and the Michigan Learning and Education Advancement Program, which together covered the full cost of his tuition. To help with living expenses during training, he also received Barrier Removal Employment Assistance (BRES), which helped cover his mortgage and mileage.

Just four weeks later, Matthew proudly graduated from Road Warriors with his CDL-A license in hand.

He returned to Michigan Works! to attend a Resume Workshop, where he added his new credentials and began actively applying for driving positions. It didn’t take long before he landed a full-time job with GFL Industries.

Today, Matthew is thriving in his new career and excited for the road ahead—literally and figuratively.
