Forged in Determination: Joshua's Journey to Excellence

When Joshua first connected with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, he had one goal in mind: to build a career in welding. But what truly set him apart wasn't just his career ambition—it was the resilience, maturity, and drive he brought with him.

Enrolling in the WIOA Youth Program, Josh arrived already having endured more than most his age. Despite the challenges life had thrown at him, he showed a remarkable level of focus and preparation, setting himself apart as a young man determined to create a better future. Through the program, he gained hands-on experience in a work setting and received vital support services including school books, work gear, and vehicle repairs to ensure he could attend both school and work consistently.

But Joshua didn’t just participate—he thrived. He treated every setback as a lesson and every challenge as a stepping stone. His daily commitment to personal growth became his defining trait. Whether it was choosing to stay in his community to support his family or consistently seeking out ways to improve his skills and character, Josh proved again and again that he was ready to lead by example.

In recognition of his outstanding perseverance and character, Joshua was honored with the 2025 Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Excellence in Youth Leadership Award. This award is reserved for participants who exemplify unwavering commitment to their education and career goals while inspiring others with their leadership and grit.
