After DPI Closure, Michigan Works! Helps Jobseeker Train for New Career

Jacob came to Michigan Works! after he lost the job he had for 15 years at Decorative Panels International as a Bauer Operator. When the plant shutdown after 70 years of operation, Jacob wasn't sure what his next move would be.

He decided to pursue getting his CDL-A at Road Warrior Truck Driving School. Michigan Works! was able to assist with the cost of his CDL-A training, as well as mileage to and from training. He was traveling 164 miles round trip, 5 days a per week for 3 weeks so the reimbursement was very helpful.

Thanks to the assistance Michigan Works! provided, Jacob was able to learn to drive a semi truck in 3 weeks and passed with flying colors. He said it was very challenging to learn, but he looks forward to using his new skillset.

Jacob is very thankful for the help from Michigan Works! to be able to complete the course and obtain his CDL-A license. Upon completion of his training, he was hired at Tran-Sol as a truck driver at $19.00 per hour. He is looking forward to this new career change and to see where this leads him.
