A Dream Achieved Through Determination

For Jennifer, becoming a registered nurse was more than a career goal—it was a dream that required sacrifice, perseverance, and the support of her entire family. While completing her prerequisite courses and raising three children, Jennifer worked part-time while her husband worked two jobs to help support the family. She knew that once she entered North Central Michigan College's rigorous nursing program, maintaining employment would be nearly impossible.

Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium helped ease the financial burden by providing tuition assistance for expenses not covered by scholarships, along with mileage reimbursement for the many trips required between campus and clinical sites. The support allowed Jennifer to devote her full attention to her studies instead of worrying about how to pay for school or transportation.

Jennifer's hard work paid off in extraordinary ways. She graduated from the North Central Michigan College nursing program with Highest Distinction, maintaining an impressive 3.942 GPA, graduated at the top of her cohort, passed the NCLEX on her first attempt, and secured her dream position as a Circulating Nurse at Otsego Memorial Hospital–Munson Healthcare, earning $33.35 per hour.

Reflecting on her journey, Jennifer shared, "Without the help of Michigan Works!, I'm not sure I would have made it to the end as well as I did. The financial assistance gave me peace of mind so I could fully focus on school. I was also able to be a great example for my kids, showing them that hard work and perseverance can help you achieve your dreams."
