Ready to Work, Equipped for Success

When Amanda accepted a housekeeping position with Final Touch Cleaning, she was eager to work and help support her household. However, with her husband and son receiving disability income, the family had limited funds available for the additional expenses that came with starting her new job.
Amanda needed appropriate uniform pants and shoes but couldn't afford the necessary items on her own.
Through the Barrier Removal Employment Success (BRES) program, Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium provided the work clothing and shoes she needed to perform her job comfortably and maintain a professional appearance while cleaning homes.
The assistance helped Amanda prepare for her new role and work confidently throughout the day. She was especially grateful to have the proper clothing and footwear to move comfortably between homes while carrying out her responsibilities.
Amanda also took an important lesson from the experience: she plans to build an emergency fund to help manage unexpected expenses in the future.
Her story highlights how addressing a practical, immediate need can help someone get to work prepared and ready to succeed. With support from Michigan Works!, Amanda was able to overcome an initial barrier and focus on building stability through employment.
