Onaway Students Tour Northern Performance in Gaylord

3.14.24 – Twenty-four Onaway seniors attended a Talent Tour at Northern Performance in Gaylord to learn more about careers in the automotive industry. The tour was led by Onaway Alumni, and Northern Performance owners, Kenny Dangler and Dick Norman.

Students were shown where and how to check a car’s oil, and how to check tire pressure, as well as the importance of tire maintenance. They were also encouraged to look under a shop car to see what a performance car looks like, and had a chance to sit in the car as well.

During a demonstration showing students how they put a car on the system to check it’s performance, they got the car up to 160 miles per hour, exciting all in attendance. The tour wrapped up with staff performing a smoky burnout in their Silverado’s, which the students loved as well.

The overall feedback from the students was this was the best talent tour they have been on yet, which goes to show, it doesn’t matter if you’re young or old – fast cars are cool.

Happy to have introduced students from his hometown to careers in automotive, Northern Performance shared on their Facebook page, “Today we had the honor of my hometown Onaway Cardinal seniors in for a visit to do some career-soul searching with Michigan Works! We went over some of the build process on the green car, ripped the Vette on the Dyno and ended off with the guys doing a Smokey burnout in their Silverado’s. It was awesome! Being in the shop and around powerful cars every day I seemingly forget how cool this stuff is and can be. Watching them light up reminded me of being a kid again and being inspired by something really unique in the automotive world. It was great having them! I hope we inspired even just a few of them to follow their dreams! Because we sure wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for those before that inspired us.”
