Lacey was a high school senior who wanted to be a Vet Tech, but she had no idea how she was going to pay for her training. She began working with a Michigan Works! Youth Career Advisor to help her plan for her future.
Lacey didn’t have much support at home, but her Youth Career Advisor was able to help her explore career options and pathways, work on filling out her FAFSA, and research training funding options.
During Lacey’s time in the WIOA Youth program, she gained work experience at the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter and also participated in the Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG) program, enabling her to attend Legislative Day in Lansing.
With help from her Youth Career Advisor, Lacey found out she was eligible for a Tuition Incentive Program Scholarship and that she qualified for dependency override for FAFSA assistance. With this funding in place, it meant college was going to be a sure thing for Lacey.
Lacey graduated high school and is currently pursuing her dream to become a Vet Tech through classes at Baker College.
Lacey says she was very grateful to have someone guide her through the financial aid process and help her secure her spot in the Veterinary Tech Program.
