From Farm Fields to Big Wheels

When Herbert decided to transition from farming to heavy equipment operation, he knew earning his CDL-A would help open new doors. With a passion for transporting excavators and large machinery, he enrolled at GOC Truck Driving School to pursue his career goal. However, the cost of training and travel presented financial challenges.
Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium helped cover Herbert's training expenses and provided mileage reimbursement for travel to and from school. He also received guidance and encouragement from his Career Advisor and Career Navigator throughout the process.
Despite the challenges, Herbert persevered and successfully earned his CDL-A credential. He is now working with a local excavating company, putting his new skills to use behind the wheel.
Reflecting on his experience, Herbert shared that Michigan Works! helped with training costs and that the support he received from staff made a significant difference.
Herbert's story demonstrates how training assistance and personalized support can help individuals transition into new occupations and build on their existing experience.
