Jakecobray smiles, wearing glasses and blue cap and gown with gold stole, standing against a brick wall and looking calmly at the camera.

When Jakecobray first connected with Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, he was searching for guidance—unsure of his next steps but motivated to build a better future. Through the Michigan Works! Youth Services program and support from Jobs for Michigan Graduates, Jakecobray was able to access services that addressed both immediate needs and long-term goals.

Michigan Works! provided him with needed assistance, including work and school clothing, personal care items, and hands-on job search support aimed at connecting him with stronger employment opportunities. At the same time, he explored post-secondary pathways to better define a meaningful career direction. Jakecobray actively participated in the Virtual Self-paced Career Readiness and Exploration program, along with the Next Step Day campaign. These experiences helped him build confidence, strengthen job search skills, and expand his awareness of career possibilities.

Each step forward added to his understanding of what it takes to succeed—and where his own interests and strengths could take him. As he explored different career options, Jakecobray discovered a passion for engineering and has now set his sights on becoming an Electrical Appliance Engineer. With a clear goal in mind, he is now exploring post-secondary options that will help him enter this field.

Jakecobray's journey highlights the importance of career exploration and the confidence that comes from having a clear vision for the future.
